Laboratory Technician On Site

The factors that affect the esthetic results of most dentistry are dependent on two primary areas. The dentist must diagnose, treatment plan, perform the preparations of the teeth in such a way as to provide the correct space for the restorative material, and duplicate the teeth accurately for the laboratory technician to create his art work. The technician must then apply his artistic talents to recreate the natural anatomy of the teeth with precision. He then custom designs and handcrafts each set of crowns and veneers for every patient. His personal goal for each case is to mimic the beauty of nature as close as possible to create the perfect smile.

It became very clear to Dr. Myers early in his professional career that the best way to achieve a superior end result for the patient is to work directly with the lab technician. In 1993 Volker Firnkes, ceramist originally from Mannheim, Germany, and Dr Myers joined forces to serve the patient. By working together, both the dentist and the ceramist acquires a better understanding of what each other needs in order to render the patient the best end result. Some of the benefits of an in office lab technician is customization of shade selection, customized shaping of teeth to fit the patient’s personality and function, and any modifications or changes to a patient’s finished veneers or crowns can be made immediately rather than requiring an additional office visit.
